Thursday 20 July 2006 - So little time and so much to do
16:15
From Al Zahbi, I head over to San d'Oria to complete the Chocobo Race for the week. A time of 19m and 29s is not brilliant but I plan out a new course through South Gustaberg that will save a few seconds. I gain 695 EXP, which now puts me at 12,618 TNL.Back into Jeuno and through to San d'Oria again and I head off to The Boyahda Tree for more NPC and scythe fun.Straight in and I find a coffer chest and gain another 12,960 Gil - I can't believe how fast these keys drop here... I wish all AF was located here for my jobs, lol.18:50
I have an early start tomorrow so I decide to call it a night. Scythe is at 165.9 now, Epi is about 30% thruogh 62 and I am 11,930 TNL, with a lot of the EXP ring left.

Wednesday 19 July 2006 - Epi hits 62. Scythe is a horrific skilling weapon.. but hits really hard
16:00
The first order of business is to attempt this Tactics Pearl again. Jay is not around so I decide I will go for this on my own. This time, I stay down on the first floor killing the wanderers for about 30 minutes. As the Protect fades, I reapply the buffs, MP up and Epi and I head for the Memory Receptacle. What I have discovered is that if you don't hit it, it won't hit back, it just spawns more strays for you to kill. It also does appear that even though they are Too Weak, they still give Epi EXP because there is no way I have killed 30 mobs but as I defeat the MR and head up to the ???, Epi gains 2,100 EXP, which is fantastic.23:00
We head back into The Boyahda Tree and I have purchased an Ivory Sickle for 191,000 Gil. Perhaps a little excessive but I can always sell it back later (hopefully for a profit). My scythe skill is 160 and this is slower to skill up... much slower. I have brought a few Jack'o'lanterns with me to enhance my accuracy and I am hitting quite a lot but over the space of 2 hours, I only gain 4 and a bit levels on scythe. I put this down to the fact that it's not really skill that is making me hit the mobs but a mixture of luck as well, hence no skill ups - I think it will get easier as the scythe level improves - it's a bit worrying when I am still getting 0.4 and 0.5's for skill ups.We are killing mobs more quickly though so Epi is killing the maximum anount of mobs in 90 minutes.Quite quickly into this, she gains 62 - my final goal of 65 is getting closer but I think some of the linkshell are annoyed because my NPC is higher than their own personal jobs, lol. Beng a BST though, it is pretty easy and I have so many available tanks in the mandragoras.01:00
Jay is trying to organise completing Iora's and Bugen's Promathia missions but there are still people without a full set of Animas - we simply will not do this without them, because it makes the battles so much easier. We are also definitely not of the opinion that taking 6 Summoners in represents skill and organisation - it's just the easy way out.02:00
Iora is not feeling 100% so we will have to delay this for another time. I decide to call it a night and I will re-focus efforts on scythe skill tomorrow.

Tuesday 18 July 2006 - My first ever failed Tactics Pearl run
21:00
My inventory is completely packed out from water crystals, land crab meat and a nice amount of beastmen and kindred seals, so I head back to town to offload some equipment. I have also collected 6 crawler cocoons, which do not stack, I take 3 lightning crystals and turn these into silk threads and pass them onto Paul. I also have 2 H.Q. crab shells which I also pass on. Paul puts these all onto the AH and as Jay is around we decide to go off to complete this week's Tactics Pearl quest - I cannot forget I still need to complete my Chocobo Race as well before Sunday. 00:00
We enter and make up our way up to the second floor where we know we can get some nice EXP for the NPCs. We tally off around 30 mobs and are proceeding to collect the ??? when we come up against a real challenge and eventually I end up dying. Thankfully, Jay finishes the mob off and collects 2,100 EXP for his NPC. I HP back to Aht Urhgan knowing that I will have to wait until after 16:00 tomorrow before I can try again. This is not a problem so I head back to The Boyahda Tree and skill up club to 190 - this will do for the moment on club - the skill ups are slowing down for some reason. Epi is about 70% through 61 and I am 15,234 TNL now.

Sunday 16 July 2006 - On and on we go... skilling up is kind of slow
16:00
Back on with Epi in The Boyahda Tree: I still have several charges left on my Tactics Pearl and take out my 169 skilled club to skill it up.
Ther going is slower as I am only averaging about 10 DMG per hit compared to axe, at around the same speed. Skill ups are fairly frequent and by the time I have to call it an evening, I am at 180 or so - club caps at 197 on a BST 68 so there has been some good progress being made.
All the time I am venturing closer to 69, gaining at least 3,000 EXP a day with the Empress Band but certainly the going is slower without a lack of Sanction and hitting T-VT mobs. The 9 seperate coffer keys that have now dropped is frustrating as I only collect 2 or 3 of them, being unable to find the chests whilst trying to get the maximum amount of EXP for Epi and myself.

Saturday 15 July 2006 - Epi is ready for the final stretch
16:00
With Epi at 60, it is important I now complete her final Limit Break. It transpires that apart from heading into Beadeaux, I have spoken to everyone else already so down to see the Quadavs I go.
It's good to realise that these mobs at the deepest points who conned from T - VT to me at 60 whilst I completed my BST AF are now DC - T, making it much easier to get coffer keys from them for other jobs.
For the moment however, I venture into Qulun Dome, touch a ??? and warp back into Jeuno to complete the quest. Epi is now all ready for 65.
I am still debating whether to take a club or scythe with me and use the time to skill up a second weapon. Although the idea of leveling DRK is a distant thought and certainly very long term, a scythe makes a good second weapon for BST (although the delay time is not nice). For the moment, I think leveling club again, at least for use on WHM (considering it is their strongest weapon and WHM never get to melee) is a better choice.
All this though, is for another day.

Friday 14 July 2006 - NPC level 60
16:30
Straight on and in, Epi and I head back to the Sanctuary of Zi'tah and continue our assault on her level. I find it interesting that 4 Coffer Keys drop in the space of 40 minutes on a Waning Crescent moon... 2 of them fall to the side because of their RARE status but I have never seen them drop so easily before.
17:45
Epi hits level 60, which is a fantastic achievement - it's important that I finish her last quest to allow her to pass to the final level of 65. Hopefully at some point they will allow NPCs to level to 70 or 75, but it's not impossible that they would be over-powered then.
We finish off our time here and head back to Jeuno for the evening.

Thursday 13 July 2006 - Learning to balance real life and FFXI...still
18:30
Last four days have been very much RL crazy and I cannot see this changing too much in the near future. Well.. it pays the bills, I guess.
I move the last of the equipment onto Larry and ensure all the Promy memories are now on David.
I prep myself for more BST and NPC leveling from having been a WHM on Sunday. I run over to the gate guard for Signet and it is time to log off presently before I can enter the Sanctuary of Zitah.
22:15
I decide to re-focus my efforts after some sleep tonight. There is no reason why Epi can't hit 60 tomorrow.

Sunday 9 July 2006 - NPC 59, chocobo races and more time in Promvyions
13:30
I have about 2 and a half hours before the Conquest tallies run over - I have this time to get a new Tactics Pearl for this week, and then I can repeat it again later on next week.I put some more equipment into Larry's Delivery Box and then tidy up Paul's inventory before heading back to my WHM and into a Promyvion - probably Mea.I check my Delivery Box and find that all 3 stacks of puk wings have sold for 10,000 Gil each - this helps compensate for the new Reraise Gorget I had to buy yesterday.14:00
Epi and I venture into Promvyion-Mea to kill the wanderers. My NPC gets some good EXP from doing this quest each week and I haven't done it in such a long time - when she hit 58, it was becoming harder to be able to efficiently level her as my BST was only 63. Now that I have some more levels on my BST, I can continue this - I believe she can easily hit 62-63 with me at 68. Just wish I could call her in the new areas.14:20
Epi gains 940 EXP for this quest, which brings her much closer to her next level. I will head over to San d'Oria now and pick up my new Tactics Pearl and then I can repeat this quest before next Sunday. In total, I will have over 15 calls of Epi this week, if I have the time.14:45
I have my new Pearl and swap back over to BST to head for the Sanctuary of Zitah and back to my hunting grounds as a BST 63. I will focus on crabs and mandragora mainly.16:30
I am averaging about 1,000 EXP / hr now - quite the difference from yesterday but so long as Epi is getting good EXP, then that's the important thing. I cannot forget as well that these small amounts of EXP all bring me a little closer to my next level as well. She says it is time to go shortly afterwards, which is no bad thing as I have just aggroed Aquarius - where did he spawn from? I grab a mandragora and set it on him and then run to the zone line. My pet does seem to last quite a long time and I contemplate giving him another go...Not today however.I use my second charge of the day and shortly afterwards, Epi hits level 59. Time to find some stronger mobs again...I also take a chance to review Conquest results for this week and lo and behold, we are back in third again. At least I get more Conquest Points now though.20:30
I call it time out as I am 50% through 59 and Iiora needs a hand opening up NIN. I am happy to help because I had help with this way back when I was as a WHM 33 or so.21:30
We get into Korrolka Tunnel and make our way to the leech spawn point. The battle is easy and Jay is there to cheer us on - he is also videoing the fight for editing later on. I like this idea a lot.Afterwards, Jay and I decide to head over to complete a Tactics Pearl for this week - once I'm done with my current pearl I can change over to this one straight away.
22:30
We head back into Mea and head staight up to the seond floor so we can grab the ??? there instead. We fight out with the mobs there for about 35-40 minutes and then finish the quest. We both earn 2,100 EXP for our NPCs - about 9% of this current level.
23:00
It transpires that Thorpe will not be able to make it this evening so we will have to reschedule this for another time. It's a shame but there is no point going in under-strengthed for this.

Saturday 8 July 2006 - BST 68 - oh and I killed Maat, first go and no preperation
12:00
I hoped to get back online last night but I was diverted... let's just say it was very nice...Still moving armour across to Larry but it is going smoothly and I think the split will work quite nicely overall.Yesterday, Thorpe and I were chatting about a BCNM 40, Under Observation, which has a 5% drop rate on the Peacock Charm, currently valued at well over 18,000,000 Gil. The drops also include Utsusemi: Ni and Erase. It's a 3 person BCNM and with Thorpe's (or T, as I like to call him) NIN and my BST we have a good chance of getting some success on this. We were planning something out last night but alas it was not to be.The good thing will be is that I need my BST 40 equip back now for the Minotaur fight this weekend so I will be ready to go on this. For the moment, however, there is BST EXP to gain.12:15
However, as I exit the Mog House, there are the familiar shourts for Besieged parties - the Undead Swarm are preparing their attack. I do question my ability even at 67 to be of any use, mainly because my equipment is not geared for fighting IT mobs, hence I am missing much accuracy equipment. I decide that with well over 500 people already prepared, the Empire is safe and that the extra 500 EXP I might gain is not worth the 30 min hassle when I can gain over 2000 EXPing normally.I initially decide to head back to my original pososition yesterday but there is a party there so I move back around and make sure I put Re-Raise 2 up today:PET: Aht Urhgan AttercopENEMY: PukAttacks: Crosswind (Front Attack), Zephr Mantle (Shadows), Wind Shear (AoE knockback and damage), Obfuscate (Flash)14:00
A lot of BSTs around EXPing today, so I keep informing them that I was here first. Thankully, they get the message and move on. Eventually, I decide to move camp back to where the Haunts are, now that that camp is empty. In my time here I have also gained a personal record of 5,278 EXP in one hour on my BST. The Sanction effect and Empress Band have obviously played a huge part in this.15:30
A badly time Diaga to clear the Blink effect on a puk has resulted in me taking aggro from a second spider. I set my pet on both of them but he is quickly knocked down and of course, this is the moment, when I fail a charm. It is also the moment I realise my Re-Raise effect is gone...The death is expensive at well over 2,000 EXP and I have to HP. It does, however, enable me to get a new Re-Raise Gorget and some more accuracy food. All going well, this should now take me through to 68.
17:00
It has been going smoothly - the puks on this side appear to always be of a higher level so the chains are still coming in at over 240-280.
Almost exactly the same thing happens ago though when a Spider's Web TP attack catches a second spider. This in itself is not a problem as I charm the second spider but it fails!. The Tame does not work and nor does a second try at Charming also fails. I am thankful my Re-Raise 2 is up as I fall to the floor...
I quickly Raise myself and claim back the 500 EXP I lost - of course, now my food is gone.
19:00
Things move forward and with 600 EXP to go I lose my Sanction effect... no way am I going back to Al Zahbi so I take down 4 more puks and I have BST 68! Level 75 is one step closer now and coupled with Rank 6 I feel rather good about myself.
I ignore the fact that without those 2 deaths with no Re-Raise, I would have been 68 about 90 minutes ago, but it matters not now. I will have to secure this level, of course, but for the moment, I sign off very pleased.
21:00
Back on, and with the change in level, some of the puks are now EM but based on Gauge, still display a resistance to Charm. I try a couple out and they attack at quite a speed. Also when another puk uses Crosswind on them, they regain HP.
I get about 1,000 EXP into 68 and head back to Al Zahbi and onto Jeuno to check out some new equipment.
22:20
There is nothing new for me so I head over to Maat to chat about our upcoming battle. I have no intention of trying yet but my LS thinks I should and I figure that getting another Testimony is not difficult for a BST so I head into the BCNM.
I call up Courier Carrie and begin to let her timer run down. I attempt to buff up but I have forgotten there are no subjobs in this. Then I notice that I only have 10 minutes to do this so I head in to find Maat and a pet mandragora.
We focus on the pet and Maat foolishly 2 hrs almost as it is dead so he is left on his own now and we turn to face him. He attacks quite hard and as he is down to about 50% HP he calls his second pet, a dragonfly.
By this time Carrie is almost dead and I still have over 2 mins left on my recast. She disappears so I Rampage him for 268 but I am being eaten alive by the both of them.
I accept my upcoming death and am grateful for the experience as the screen changes and Maat says:
"Hm. That was a mighty fine display of skill there, Feclovien. You've come a long way..."
He still had 15% of his HP left and he gave up, lol! I cleared it in 4 minutes and 5 seconds and the record was only 3 minutes and 28 seconds. I return to Jeuno to speak to him once more and make sure I really did complete it..
I still cannot believe it.
All these tales on the forums of the preparation involved and which jug to use and the strategy and I walk in and just complete it - as I talk to Maat again, it is evident that this is done and I can reach 75 when I want.
23:15
We have decided that we will complete Bugenhagen's final two Promvyions this evening, thus opening the way for his help with the Minotaur tomorrow.
I do enjoy these missions because it is not about the level (because it is capped) but the skill of people. Farming the animas is time consuming but really makes the final bosses a lot easier.
So, for the moment our party of Brittywitty, Jayzun, Bugenhagen and myself go off to collect some more animas.
02:30
The going has been slow but I have netted over 600 EXP in this time (lol 200 EXP / hr - yey!) and we now have all of our animas ready for a fight. Alas, I call it a night.
But what a great day it has been!

Friday 7 July 2006 - Paying forward help and favours
15:45
I get on and Funnyhaha asks for some help with Windurst Mission 6-1. After her help yesterday, I have no qualms about saying yes so we head out to Outer Horutot Ruins for a fight with 4 cardians. We also have a PLD 74 called Playerface. The battle goes well and I head back to Al Zahbi for some more EXP on my BST.16:45
My normal camp is taken so I revert back to where the spiders mingle with the puks. I am again very easily able to acheive Chain #4 and quickly use up the EXP bonus on my Empress Band. There are two haunts that spawn during the night and I catch aggro from one. It is only DC but it takes longer to kill than a T puk does - undead and ghosts are a pain.
PET: Aht Urhgan AttercopENEMY: PukAttacks: Crosswind (Front Attack), Zephr Mantle (Shadows), Wind Shear (AoE knockback and damage), Obfuscate (Flash)19:15
By now I am 14,719 TNL but I have returned to my original camp just around the corner - the spacing of the pets and mobs is much better and I can Diaga whenever they use their Blink TP attack. However, the spacing of the puks between each other is much tighter and very quickly I wind up with two on me. My original pet dies and I charm another spider but it fails to take any hate and I am quickly dead. My confidence in the EXP and my skill has meant I have forgotten to put up Re-raise 2 and am now forced to HP for a loss of well over 1,800 EXP, or 30 minutes hard work.Still now I am 14,868 TNL and I know that 4-5 constant hours of EXPing will gain me 68 - I will see this out over the weekend for sure.

Thursday 6 July 2006 - More BST EXP and Rank 6 complete
16:00
I keep continuing to move gear over to Larry etc. and then set myself up back on the spiders and puks in Wajaom Woodlands. The speed of kills now is much faster and I am regularly able to hit chain 4's:PET: Aht Urhgan AttercopENEMY: PukAttacks: Crosswind (Front Attack), Zephr Mantle (Shadows), Wind Shear (AoE knockback and damage), Obfuscate (Flash)The change of one level really enhances my ability to quickly down these puks and 90 minutes later I am 22,067 TNL.
00:30
We have decided to complete Rank 5 at this point so I head into Jeuno to meet Jay, Yan, Funnyhaha, Ballpointpen and Arquis so we can head into Xarcabard and Castle Zvahl Baileys and Keep.
The trip is uneventul but useful in knowing the areas much better now. At 67, I would gain very little aggro.
02:00
We arrive at the Throne Room and this Mission that has taken so long to get done is underway. To say that with a 75 SAM/NIN tanking this was easy, is the understatement of the year - it was a breeze.
I do enjoy the challenge of a good battle but this had no effort to it at all. However, I am glad we did not have to lead other people who I do not know through areas that require concentration.
02:30
As I stand in Xarcabard, I realise there is no OP warp back to San d'Oria because all the regions up here are Beastman controlled. This will be a long walk...
03:10
Ok not to bad in the end and I get to finish up my blog here whilst I run.
I head into the Chateau and gratefully receive Rank 6 - a lot of new things will now open up, especially Zilart Missions.
Which is where we head now, myself, Yan and Jay. We take an OP over to Norg and head into two rather excellent cut scenes. I have more questions than answers now especially regarding the Duchy of Jeuno.
I get a sense of urgency now about finding out what is going on and am genuinely intriguied to see what happens next.
However, I think our next goal must be to clear the Minotaur in the CoP Mission - this has been held back far too long now.

Wednesday 5 July 2006 - So much of this game still to discover
12:45
I start off by using the extra $1 I am paying by beginning to move equipment over to Larry. He will take all equipment that resides in the bottom 8 squares and Paul will take the top 8 squares. In theory, I should have a lot more room now than I will actually need but this allows me to fill them up over time, I hope.
I also head over to Paul and make the same discovery as I did with collibri feathers: they sell far better to NPCs than to the AH. Therefore, I send back all the puk stuff so I can get a good price on it with my fame.
Some of the items are comparably more expensive than selling at the AH but some are not. However, I release all the items to an NPC to clear my inventory and then start down the path of checking my BST 67 equipment and then getting my Avatars.
13:30
I actually get to buy something new:
Empowering Mantle DEF: 9 / HP +10 / HP +1% / MP +10 / MP +1%
This will be very good for when healing up and gives me an extra 11 MP and 22 HP based on equipment. I macro it into my MaxMP macro and also macro the Beak Mantle +1 into my Leave macro when I am most likely to get it (this other mantle has the same DEF but VIT +2 to it).
15:15
I have made my way through Bastok to Rabao and back into San d'Oria to pick up my new Avatars. I change into my SMN 11 and decide to give them a go and take some photos.
23:00
Arquis is asking for more Avatar fights for Ifrit and Leviathan, which I would be very much like. However, I start to look around the areas at Ifrit's Cauldron and Den of Rancor and the maps are quite confusing - I am not confident about getting through these areas safely.
I eventually decline the offer until I have got some maps and better experience of the areas.
01:00
I have spent some time looking around the areas above and am thoroughly confused even with http://www.ffxi-atlas.com.
Yan and Jay are both on and we start to look into Rank 5-2 completion but we haven't got the necessary people for it so I retire for the evening. I must get some EXP on my BST in case I die at some point and then de-level again.

Tuesday 4 July 2006 - BST 67 and some new Avatars
15:45
Ok, suggestions for this website: create an auto-save function so 3 hours worth of writing is not lost when I press the backspace key :(. To bring myself up to date: - New mule called Larrymullenjr. Based in Bastok for the moment, the split of equipment should prove useful.
- Both sets of mythril sheets sold, netting me 260,000 Gil. The 3 spider webs sold very quickly (and I have another 5 right now - they're worth 10,000 each).
- I put some more stuff up for sale and then head back into Wajaom Woodlands.
- Initially, I just start of killing EM and T spiders because there are two parties focusing on puks.
- About 45 minutes later, one of the party leaves so I am free to jump between puks and spiders as mobs.
PET: Aht Urhgan AttercopENEMY: PukAttacks: Crosswind (Front Attack), Zephr Mantle (Shadows), Wind Shear (AoE knockback and damage), Obfuscate (Flash)ENEMY: Aht Urghan Attercop Attacks: Spider Web (AoE Slow), Sicklet Slash (High damage, one target), Acid Spray (Poison and damage, one target)
16:15
I am at 13,568 TNL - I am over 50% of the way through 66 now and am in possesion of a total of 7 spider webs, which equates to 70,000 Gil from the AH shortly. 17:15
My Sanction runs off at an appropriate time as there is another Besieged event about to occur shortly in Al Zahbi. I leave my postion and head back and quickly sort some inventory stuff back onto Paul. The two hi-potions sold so I can put 3 spider webs up for sale and move some more puk items out of the way. 17:35
I have renewed my Sanction and stand ready. To be absolutely honest, I cannot hit anything normally - I am not prepped on this job to be fighting IT++ mobs, so I just run around throwing some Cures out and I Dia everything so I can get lots of EXP, lol. 18:30
Ultimately, as I have to go afk half way through it, I only get 300 or so EXP and about the same in IP. Still, the day is saved yet again and my EXP bonus on Sanction will remain intact. I go back out into the Woodlands and continue to EXP - I am about 7,000 TNL now. 22:30
It has been a continuous run and with about 1,000 TNL, my Sanction and food fade away again. I continue on and very happily hit BST 67 shortly after! Whilst I have been leveling, Arquis wants to do some more Avatar Prime fights. I am glad to help because I need all the Primes, then Fenrir and Diabolos before I will even think about heading on with my SMN. We agree to complete Shiva (which I need) and Ramuh (which I need to re-do for my first whisper for Fenrir), so I head over to Mhuara for a new Tuning Fork of Lightning and then to Fei'Yin. 00:00
We are ready to start with Shiva now, I hope this goes well... Within 9 minutes, I have acquired a brand new summon to add to Carbuncle and Ramuh - well it will be mine when I get back to San d'Oria anyhow. We head over to the Cloister of Storms, where we were yesterday so that we can start our Ramuh fight - I'm glad to start the Fenrir trail as well now. This also goes well, even with just 3 of us - Ballpointpen is a SAM75 and subs NIN for the shadows. I quickly get the Whisper for this one and now we're off to the Cloister of Gales up by Cape Terrigan, again where we were yesterday. I take the OP Warp from the Sanctuary and head into Cape Terrigan. Before I know it, I have been aggroed by a goblin sheperd and it's pet rabbit which then links with another rabbit. In my panic, I try charming the pet of the goblin's instead of the other one and just find a quiet place to die... I de-level but thankfully still have my Re-raise 2 up so only need about 500 EXP to get back to 67. I am fairly annoyed at something that does seem incredibly unfair - it's one thing to get aggroed, it's quite another not even to realise it is there. I head up to the Protocrystal and await the Garuda fight. 02:00
This fight was difficult as the Avatar adjusts it's level based on the first person enters. Normally this is Arquis @ 60 SMN but he sits this one out and I go in first at 66. Our WHM dies as Garuda does it's 2 hours half way through but has his Re-raise 2 up. We continue and finally win this battle, so I now have 3 Avatars for my Summoner. From here, we head down into the Quicksand Caves and into the Cloister of Tremors for a fight with Titan. This is very smooth and I now have access to 4 of the initial 6 Avatars. 03:15
We all go our seperate ways so I head into the Woodlands and quickly mark out 500 EXP with DC mobs. I gain back 67 within no time and decide to call it a night - I'm happy with BST 67 but very happy about getting some Summoner bits out of the way.

Monday 3 July 2006 - Travelling the globe, getting things done
11:30
I decide that the way to move Goldsmithing forward from 41 will not require any more mythril ingots so I change them all into mythril sheets and begin to get rid of them on the AH. This requires a warp into Jeuno, where the taxes are much lower than here in Al Zahbi. I am becoming more and more of the opinion that I will soon require a third mule - I have a name already - I'm getting more and more stuck in terms of rotation of items but I'm not sure how I will spread items across the 3 of them - 1 for armour, 1 for stacked items and 1 for...? I need a system that makes it easy for me to know where stuff is so I can collect it quickly. Need to think this part through again. Whilst I think about this more, the two malboro vines I intended to sell are more profitable in a hi-potion synth so I collect the other items from the Alchemy guild in Whitegate and make two of them. It's very useful having a lot of items available in one place, rather than moving around the world trying to get stuff. 12:05
The idea for a third mule, which I think would work, would be for Paul to stay looking after items, David to look after the top 8 slots of equipment, and a new mule to look after the bottom 8. In this case, I think I will keep this mule in Bastok - I have much better access then to all 3 cities, much more quickly. This is something I will complete today - if the US$ versus UK£ continues the way it is, this works out at about 65p for an extra 80 (I think) slots per month. Exchange rates - gotta love them! 12:45
I consider myself prepared now for some EXP - it is time to test out spiders against these puks - this should be easier as the spiders are a higher level. PET: Aht Urhgan AttercopENEMY: PukAttacks: Crosswind (Front Attack), Zephr Mantle (Shadows), Wind Shear (AoE knockback and damage), Obfuscate (Flash)This is a little easier now: with full help from me, an EM spider can defeat a VT puk and I can also kill T spiders - they drop a nice item called a spider's web. 14:25
Going very smoothly - it's great the way the spiders here neither aggro nor link and they make good inbetween EXP when there are no EM pets around. I am now 21,087 TNL. One problem I am having is trying to create enough EM pets as a lot seem to spawn as T. It's just a matter of Charming them and then Leaving them outside of their spawn radius. They then re-spawn about a minute later, hopefully as EM. This does force a drop in my EXP/min though. 15:00
A bad 30 mins, with only 1,292 EXP - too much time spent de-spawning pets and then eradicating chains. Then within a few minutes I am killed by a VT puk after failing a re-Charm on a spider. My Reraise 2 is still up so I am able to reclaim all but 500-600 of the EXP from the death. I decide now that this is a good time to head back to Al Zahbi and start some more NPC leveling with the lesser colibri, also in Wajaom Woods. However... NPCs cannot be used in ToAU areas - this is disappointing for sure. I re-check Allakhazam for some other BST leveling spots back in the Conquest areas and am debating head over to Cape Terrigan to try out some time with getting a Beastmaster Testimony - the goblins over there should be quite easy for Epi as she is only 58 presently. 16:15
As I get out to Cape Terrigan, I test out some of the mobs - specifically the goblin BSTs and by my second one, I have acquired a Beastmaster Testimony! I am ready now to face Maat but do I wait until 69 or attempt it now? For the moment, I will focus on some more EXP and begin to level Epi again. 17:00
Hmm, the mobs here are a little too far apart to make this decent and although not all of them aggro, all of them do link on each other. Ultimately, I gain 450 EXP here and put myself at 19,780 TNL. I hope the update in these coming weeks allows the use of NPCs in the new areas - it will make it a lot easier, certainly. I debate what to do now... should I return to Wajaom Woodlands and be grateful of some fairly decent EXP or attempt somewhere else? I decide that I will take some time off for the present and come back later. 21:30
I return a little more relaxed and more motivated: I shall return to Wajaom Woodlands and gain EXP there - it's faster than anywhere else, obvioulsy made easier with the Sanction EXP bonus. 22:00
Before I really get to go anywhere with it (and the zone is full of BSTs), Arquis, from my LS is asking for help with his SMN head piece. I check up on the details from Alla and Somepage and it is two seperate fights. We start to piece together a party of 6 for the Cloister of Storms in Boyahda Tree. Without wanting to go into too much detail, because not that much happened, but Aquarius was up so 3 of us tried to kill it. To be clear, when I was 63 BST, myself and two other BSTs in 63-66 range killed this crab. Tonight, we barely made a dent and only just got to zone. I felt bad for the 75 Taru there who was AFK and promptly got killed :(. 00:15
We finally enter the battle and complete it in just over 4 minutes - total overkill in the end but it's done. From here we head over to the Cloister of Gales for the second boss battle. This will be my first time here. The journey takes us back through Cape Terrigan and around manticores that are IT to me still (75-78 as I recall). We wait for the rest of the team by the Wind Protocrystal. The battle is easy again with no problems and Jay lets me borrow his Warp Cudgel to get back into Al Zahbi. It's time to call it a night as I do want to continue EXPing on BST tomorrow - I just don't know how I did not die this evening with so much going on. Ah, the luck of BST I guess...

Sunday 2 July 2006 - I am returned!
16:30
And..., I'm back! As I log back in, I check up on both Paul and David to update their Gil totals for the end of June. I also, very happily, note that San d'Oria is in 1st place in Conquest - I can finally move Goldsmithing a little further forward. On David, a Chakram that I must have sold 3 or 4 weeks ago finally has it's Gil deposited in my Delivery Box - I had forgotten all about this. I also move 12 silver beastcoins to synthesize into some ingots - I will now have enough to make a stack of them for sale shortly. I log back into Wajaom Woods, of course, but there is little point in EXPing presently: I have no charges left on my EXP ring and I need to check out my equipment for BST 66. Therefore, I return to Al Zahbi - with a first place Conquest, there will be a lot to do this week. Once back at Al Zahbi, I check for any more Gil from the AH and find 20,000 from the Chain Gorget sold last week. I finish June only 27,966 Gil up from May - an increase of just 0.21% (yes, I track this all). However, I have also spent a considerable amount of time leveling and have a much stronger THF now. I start by synthing off my 12 beastcoins, gaining the necessary 3 silver ingots from this. I send these back to David, go and get a imperial bronze piece to re-open my Mog Locker to get all the fire crystals out then head off to Jeuno to see what a level 66 Beastmaster can use... 17:45
BST continues to still be relatively cheap as there is nothing new that I need. Although I do get hit quite hard when I have hate, this is normally just temporary because pets will always be so much more stronger. My primary focus must be on CHR, because a mis-charm is almost always fatal. With nothing else to do, I have at least 50 minutes before my Chocobo race for this week, so I head off to San d'Oria and some Goldsmithing skill ups. 18:15
All set up at the Airship shop in Port San d'Oria: GoldsmithingFire + 1 x mythril ingot = mythril sheet (41)I have to drop a lot of Gil to make the synths but there is considerable profit in this, because the synth cannot be HQ'd. This will be a good synth to return to when in need of some Gil. It takes about 16-17 synths to get up to level 41 and this synth is now capped. I head off to a Chocobo to gain some free EXP. 19:20
A time of 19 mins and 13 secs gains me 815 EXP which goes straight onto my BST - need to get out of buffer area as soon as possible. I warp back into Al Zahbi to contemplate my next move. 20:30
I am unable to do anything as a Besieged event is about to occur so I decide to get involved in this. At the height of battle, there are only 450 people in the event and it takes a long time, losing 3 of the 5 Generals in the process. We win and I gain more IP and another 700 EXP. I am now 26,000 TNL and intend to make a start on this tomorrow. For the moment, I decide to call it a night and start afresh with more Puks early in the day.

Thursday 29 June 2006 - BST 66 - complete
07:15
I equip the EXP ring and set off for the last 3,000 EXP.
07:45
Yes! BST 66! I call it a day and log off until Sunday - I wonder if there will be any new equipment for me at this level...

Wednesday 28 June 2006 - 15,000 EXP as a solo BST - it's all good!
08:30
Another early start - I am eager to crack on with this level. This, however, is not to be the case as I just cannot get logged in! It will eventually take about 3 hours to do, although, I do watch some TV in between. Finally... 12:00
Another charge of my Empress Ring is used and the EXP shoots up past 400-500 again. I end up gaining over 3000 EXP in 34 minutes when the Dedication effect comes off. Same pets and monsters as yesterday: PET: Worker Pephredo and Soldier PephredoENEMY: PukAttacks: Crosswind (Front Attack), Zephr Mantle (Shadows), Wind Shear (AoE knockback and damage), Obfuscate (Flash)12:30
Sanction runs out at a good time so I head beak to the AH in Whitegate to pick up a new Reraise Gorget and some Accuracy enhancing food: these VT cause lots of misses, so it takes longer to gain EXP and reduces chances of chains. 14:00
The Jack-o-lantern is great and really improves speed of kills against VTs, so long as my pet has hate already, otherwise it has a tendency to turn to me. At this point I am now 12,700 TNL - I am past the half way point of this level. I am keeping Reraise up presently but I am much more accustomed to this camp now - I don't think it helped taking a lot of time out with THF but I feel much more in my stride now. 15:30
I take another break and crack on now - certainly, this does get repetitive but it does keep you on your toes - lots that a BST has to be aware of. 15:45
BSTs can be very silly, plus greedy - instead of taking the 30% cut and getting some EXP, we would rather Leave our pets to risk full EXP. This costs us, as it has just done me, with a death - I'm just thankful that Reraise 2 was up - my EXP loss was only about 500, instead of being closer to 2,000. Within two mobs, that I let my pets attack whilst I rest, I have made back the lost EXP. Really, the worst thing about this is the loss of my 3 hour food - I shall have to return to the AH again at some point. 18:00
I close off the early evening with no more deaths and only 5,413 TNL. I have returned to Aht Urghan to pick up a new Sanction effect and purchase some more Jack'o'lanterns for consumption. I will go back out this evening so I have at the most 3,000 EXP left and then I can use my EXP ring from 04:00 to take 66. We'll see what the later evening brings, however. 21:45
I am back on and have cleared Paul's Delivery Box, so I can put more stuff in it but I actually end up just sending crystals back to myself. I check the prices on the AH for the drop items from these dragons I have been killng (they're not birds - my mistake) and there is not much Gil in them at all. This has been a very expensive month and I've barely made much against May but then, I don't spend much either on equipment - BST is good that way, I guess. 22:45
My Protect and Shell fade so I call it a night at 3,162 TNL - without death, this is doable in 45 mins tomorrow morning. One thing I have noticed about these mobs is that if you cast an elemental spell the same as the current day on them (i.e. Dia on Lightsday) they get 1 free TP move immediately. This point here was the first time I leveled during Lightsday to find this out. What a cool thing to have in a game - it doesn't affect me so much but it would mean you would be hard pushed to do a Distortion skillchain on Iceday, lol.

Tuesday 27 June 2006 - I'm plodding along quite nicely now
05:15
Up early and ready to go! I make my way back from Eldieme Necropolis back into Beaucedine Glacier to take an Oupost Warp into San d'Oria. We are now placed second in the conquest, which is an improvement of one place.
I tidy up my inventory and then take a trip out to Cape Terrigan to beat up Goblin BSTs for the Testimony, ready for Maat. I do have a little time before the Chocobo race which is not for about another 60 minutes.
06:15
No luck on the Testimony but there was some EXP here and now hopefully puts me in buffer level for 65. I head off to the stables in San d'Oria to complete my race for the week.
06:45
A run time of 19 mins and 29 secs gains me a further 826 EXP for my BST. I am now 23,000 TNL. This won't take 5 minutes to get... I head into Bastok to pick up a Chain Gorget for sale here - they are used as a test item to raise synthing cap, so are very over-priced here - yey for me! I severly undercut the current pricing to ensure a definite sell and then warp back into Al Zahbi to continue a little BST leveling with my current camp. I hope this goes better today:
PET: Worker Pephredo and Soldier Pephredo
ENEMY: Puk Attacks: Crosswind (Front Attack), Zephr Mantle (Shadows), Wind Shear (AoE knockback and damage), Obfuscate (Flash)
08:15
I have made good progress, chaining some of them for over 500 EXP with the Sanction effect and EXP ring but just as I go to release my pet and finsh off the bird with a Rampage, it casts a Blink effect and I am left in a rather difficult situation, trying to up my HP whilst get through it's shadows. It is no suprise that my death is inevitable. I have made just 600 EXP after the death and am 22, 400 TNL.
I will have to make much better use of my Reraise Gorget here, I think, but knowing how close I am to the zone line means I have not died through not be able to handle a link.
16:00
Away from the game for the afternoon but I return and continue. It is very interesting to see how just 2 mobs can equate to over 600 EXP every 4-6 minutes. I continue for another hour and then step away - if I am careful about my surroundings, this is not difficult, I just need awareness.
20:00
Back on again and it is just more of the same. The VT mobs take a long time to bring down but give some great EXP. I conclude, happy with 18,000 TNL. I'm starting to make a dent in this level, finally.

Sunday 25 June 2006 - BST 65 back and helping out friends
01:30
On and straight to Paul - the beeswax has now sold for 48,000. I have nothing left to sell presently. Once that's done I grab the airship back to Nashmau for Caedarva Mire - we'll get this EXP back in no time... I hope. PET: Caedarva Leech and Treant SaplingENEMY: Marsh MurreAttacks: Helldive (Attack at one enemy), Wing Cutter (Elemental wind attack, front)02:10
Yup - the EXP was great here last time and still is - I gain the EXP back very quickly and put an extra 1,100 on it to start a buffer off. I will try Wajaom Woodlands one last time - at least I know where I can exit it to this time. 02:30
Not tonight, however: I am required in Castle Oztroja for Brittywitty's PLD AF quest involving a pugil NM. We get there quickly enough and defeat the monster in no time at all. Now it is off to The Eldieme Necropolis for a piece of Thorpe's BRD AF - ironically in the same place as one of my BST pieces (now that was a pain that quest). 04:00
Still setting up and waiting to get started, I remind myself that BST is now 65 again and I have time off from work for the next two weeks - I just hope I can make some good progress on this. 05:30
Well the NMs were much easier than the impression given with a good group ranging in 50-75, so it was no real problem. We even got a Papyrus drop from a skeleton - if we'd needed it, it would never have dropped. I log out ready to make my way back to San d'Oria ready for Conquest rollover tomorrow.

Saturday 24 June 2006 - I really can be a good BST - tonight wasn't one of those times
00:30
Quickly onto Paul to discover my beeswax had not sold so I put it back up again. More luck with my bolts so I head back into Wajaom Woodlands and back to where I was yesterday. I put up a Reraise II just in case and proceed with the same as yesterday. PET: Worker Pephredo and Soldier PephredoENEMY: PukAttacks: Crosswind (AoE knockback), Zephr Mantle (Shadows), Wind Shear (Front attack), Obfuscate (Flash)However, within a couple of kills I get aggro from a huge range again so I attempt to use the bees to kill both at the same time. I go through 4 seperate pets, letting them Leave so they can regain HP again but they birds hit hard and I am soon taken down. I also note that there is an exit to another zone not far from my position - there really is no need to take these fights like this. In another moment of stupidty, I HP instead of waiting for the Reraise effect... I am now BST 64 again. 01:30
I elect to head of to Caedarva Mire to regain my level with the leeches and birds there - there does appear to be some worth to staying there for 65 potentially, but I may have to leave Aht Urghan - and it's wonderful EXP - to head back to other areas - plus, my NPC always needs leveling. PET: Caedarva Leech and Treant SaplingENEMY: Marsh MurreAttacks: Helldive (Attack at one enemy), Wing Cutter (Elemental wind attack, front)5 fights later and I have BST 65 back so I retire from my position as there is another BST there before me. The birds there are still T to me... 02:10
As I exit the area, the other BST says he is logging off so I head back in to put some buffer on the level. I am stupid in not running for a pet early enough and wind up failing a Charm, taming the second bird but not being able to get a Cure 3 in before I am dead again. I am now 1,700 TNL on 65 so I think this is a very good time to call it a night and re-focus my efforts over the next couple of days.
