Just say this.... Watashi wa nihongo no ichinensee desu.
It means "I'm a first year japanese student" and the japanese will be REALLY friendly.

Also I recommend "Making out in Japanese" I &II

There's a lot of helpful phrase in Romanji (Japanese spelled in roman letters) and there's a key to understanding Hirigana and Katakana (japanese alphabet, if you will). It'll also help with those japanese stalkers.
